BELLY DANCE for BEGINNERS

Six week course starting Saturday 10am 13th September 2008 at Morton Hall, Elm Tree Road, Onchan click here for map

WHAT WE WILL BE DOING: Firstly, having fun! We will be learning the basic movements of belly dance with our hips and arms and legs, exotic steps with names such as:  figures of 8, hip circles, hits, camels, snake arm movements, shimmies, Egyptian walks. We will start with a warm up and finish with a cool down. We will also create a simple choreography that we will repeat and add to week on week. Please note this is not an aerobics class! I will be teaching the ART of belly dance. My teaching style reflects this.

WHAT TO WEAR: There is no need to bare your belly, but you can if you like. Please wear something comfortable and that you can move your hips in. Jeans are not suitable as they are a bit too stiff to allow hip movement. Circle skirts are ideal but not essential. Please wear ballet type shoes, or keep bare feet. Please don't wear trainers as they restrict some of your movements. You can also wear sparkling goodies like coined hip scarves, I will bring some for you to borrow if you don’t have your own. Be beautiful!

WHO CAN ATTEND? Anyone over 14 years. Sorry no under 14s. There is no upper age limit as the dance suits all ages, shapes and sizes. No spectators though as it can be off putting to new students.  You are welcome to stay for tea/coffee and biscuits after the class and meet some of the other club members who will be arriving for their late morning class. We’re a very friendly bunch!

FITNESS LEVEL REQUIRED: Belly dance uses muscles that are not used much in everyday life. Just come as you are and we will work at YOUR level.  Even people who attend gym on a regular basis can find the movements as much as a challenge as those who are couch potatoes but it will all come to you with practise.

COST: £30 for the six week course, payable in advance price includes a music cd and notes to help you practise at home. Cheques should be made out to Hediya and sent to: Chrissy Stephenson, Hediya A. D. C., Park House, Athol Park, Port Erin IM9 6ES along with your name and full contact details (please enclose s.a.e. if you want a receipt). No monies will be banked until after the start of the course so you may post date the cheque to 13 September if you like.

The course will only run if we have sufficient numbers so don’t delay book today!

At the end of the course you will have the option of joining Hediya Arabic Dance Club. For a modest annual membership fee you will then get your next class free plus discounts on workshops and some other events, regular newsletters and access to the club library.
