WHAT WE WILL BE
DOING: Firstly, having fun! We will be learning the basic movements of belly
dance with our hips and arms and legs, exotic steps with names such as: figures
of 8, hip circles, hits, camels, snake arm movements, shimmies, Egyptian walks.
We will also use a
series of simple combinations and choreography that we will repeat and add to week on week.
WHAT TO WEAR:
There is no need to bare your belly, but you can if you like. Just wear
something comfortable and that you can move your hips in. Jeans are not suitable
as they are a bit too stiff to allow hip movement. Something stretchy such as jazz pants
or leggings and/or a long swishy skirt is fine. We usually dance with bare feet
or wear soft ballet type shoes. Please don't
wear trainers as they restrict some of your movements. You can also wear
sparkling goodies like coined hip scarves, there are usually some available for you to borrow
and we also have a selection for sale. Be beautiful!
WHO CAN ATTEND?
Anyone over 14 years. Sorry no under 14s. There is no upper age limit as the
dance suits all ages, shapes and sizes. No spectators at the beginner stage though as it can be off
putting to new students. You are welcome to stay and watch the improvers
session though (we love an audience). You can also stay for
tea/coffee and biscuits after the Saturday class and chat to some of the other club members. We’re a very friendly bunch!
FITNESS LEVEL
REQUIRED: Belly dance uses muscles that are not used much in everyday life.
Just come as you are and we will work at YOUR level. Even people who attend gym
on a regular basis can find the movements as much as a challenge as those who
are couch potatoes but it will
all
come to you with
practise.
