Hediya Arabic Dance Club Annual General Meeting 20th September 2003 The meeting opened at 1.00 p.m. Present were: Committee: Chrissy Stephenson (Hon Sec), Wendy Horn (Hon Treas), Jo Elliott, Karey Forster Members: Mary Butt, Alison Comyns, Mo Cowell, Cath Kneen, Madeleine Orell, Joan Sumner, Brenda Wilson Minutes. The membership voted to adopt the measures agreed at the Extraordinary General Meeting earlier this year. Secretary’s Report. Treasurer’s report. Election of Officers. Wendy Horn has decided to step down as Treasurer. Chrissy Stephenson agreed to take on her duties until a replacement can be found. The membership voted to thank Wendy for all she has done. Alison Comyns was elected as a member of the committee. Membership fees. It was decided to change the membership year so that it runs from September to August, like the academic year. Current membership subscriptions will be valid up to the end of August 2004. People joining in April will pay a reduced subscription for this year. The amount of the subscription will be reviewed at the next AGM to see if it can be reduced. The financial year will also run from September to August to make accounting easier. Dance Sessions It was agreed to continue with evening session on Wednesdays in Port Erin, once a month. They are going quite well and the cost is reasonable. The content of the dance sessions was discussed. The membership agreed that the sessions should contain plenty of practice and some choreography. The class may sometimes be divided into beginners and improvers. Workshops We agreed that the annual number of workshops should be four or five, to be held in the winter and early spring. The cost is to be held at the present level, subject to review by the committee. Time: it was agreed that the last workshop, 10.30 to 3.30, was about the right length. Saturday was generally felt to be the best day. Social Events. Two haflas will be held, one in the spring and the other in the winter. Other suggestions were discussed: meals out, a cruise in MV Karena, a shopping trip to Liverpool, visits to workshops in the UK. The possibility of providing subsidies from club funds for these trips was discussed but rejected. Summer. It was decided that the club will take a break over the summer months, from early July to the end of August. AOB. There was no other business.
